Buchanan Flea Market Continues
The Buchanan Flea Market has begun their 3rd year on 12+ acres in Buchanan, at the intersection of Main and 19th St.
The flea market is open on Saturdays from 6:30 am.-5 pm. There is plenty of free parking and 500 seller spaces available for $10 each. Hundreds of folks from all over have been buying or just coming by each Saturday to see what the market has to offer.
Co-owner Tim Young (along with his brother Wally) said that “we hope to add some live bluegrass music and host farm equipment auctions and tractor shows on some Fridays.”

The Buchanan Fountain & Grille Under New Management
Donna and Mark Marsh, former owners and managers of the Swinging Bridge Café, recently closed the café and moved across Main St. to take over the well-known Buchanan Fountain and Grille.
The Marshes managed Bob Evans Restaurants in S.E. Ohio before moving to the Buchanan area several years ago to open their own restaurant. Their move was preceded by their children and first grandchildren (now numbering 10!) who also were in Ohio and liked what the Buchanan area offers. The oldest grandchild is 12 and is already helping at the restaurant.
The Marshes are thankful to the Buchanan community for their support and patronage and look forward to continuing to serve their customers for many years to come. For more information, see the ad on page 11.
Local Woman Opens a New Restaurant
Born and raised in Buchanan, Myra Dancausse (formerly Bankert) recently “heard a call” and opened River Craft Rail House on Main St. in downtown Buchanan, a short distance from the James River and “Swinging Bridge.”
If her name seems familiar, you may have seen her at her parent’s camper, hardware and sporting goods businesses in nearby Mt. Joy, where she helped with accounting and management.
Myra earned B.A. Degrees in Accounting and Business Management at Bluefield (VA) College and is continuing to put her knowledge to good use.
The River Craft Rail House menu is “casual American” and offers 10 craft beers on tap and a variety available in bottles. The lower level is called Lowe’s Place, where live music is offered most Friday and Saturday nights.

Riding Lessons Available Nearby!
Roanoke native Tina English recently moved back to the area from Kansas City, where she taught riding lessons and trained show horses professionally for the past 25+ years. She got into horses in 1969 and “I just never wanted to do anything else” English says.
Her Blue Mountain Farm is located at historic Lauderdale on Lee Highway (Rt. 11 just south of I-81), where she specializes in saddleseat for any level and beginning riding instruction for show or pleasure for any age rider. Training is also available for Saddlebred horses and similar breeds.
Tina was successful in the Midwest where she apprenticed with well-known horsemen and ran a large program but
has been wanting to come back to this
area for years.
“I just can’t describe how much I love it here!” she says. “I don’t know how many people I have already met that have told me how happy they are that I can offer this service to the community.”

Botetourt Funeral Home (& Crematory) Expands Services
Botetourt Funeral Home recently announced that they are now Botetourt Funeral Home and Crematory. Over the past few years they had noticed a steady rise of families requesting cremations. Recognizing this, staff members have spent many hours of training, required by the State of Virginia, and have worked with various federal and local agencies to conform with all regulations to establish their new crematory.
The crematory building is behind the chapel, and the front entrance has been remodeled to provide a covered portico.
Also new is the Botetourt Event Center, which is adjacent to the chapel. The event center will be available for anniversaries, birthday parties, baby showers, wedding, reunions, civic and club meetings along with funerals, visitations, family gatherings, receptions and meals after funerals.
