Sirens and Salutes, Inc. was founded and incorporated in April 2021 by Bill and Cindy Price as a 501c3 not for profit located in Buchanan. Bill is a Navy veteran and retired firefighter, now volunteering at his local fire department. He is also Commander of the local VFW Post 5895.
Cindy is a registered nurse with many years of experience working in the ER and ICU. The board members include a local paramedic, a law enforcement officer and former Marine, a retired
FDNY firefighter and two members with strong family military service.
Sirens & Salutes hosts an annual 9/11 Memorial Walk in September and donates two Fallen Heroes Trees to Buchanan and Hotel Roanoke as part of Fashions for Evergreens each year. In December, the organization purchases and places wreaths on veterans’ graves each Christmas at multiple cemeteries.
Each May, they place flags on Memorial Day and Veterans Day at multiple cemeteries. They provide local fire stations and law enforcement with holiday BBQ boxes.
In addition, Sirens & Salutes provides local nursing home veterans with care packages throughout the year. They have recently obtained trustee-ship of a neglected unkempt cemetery and helped restore the grounds to honor those veterans buried there.
“We have purchased a cenotaph stone for a local veteran with no memorial marker,” Bill Price said. “We often will pay for a meal for a veteran, police officer or firefighter who is out for lunch or dinner.
“We partner with the local elementary school to have children draw and sign Christmas cards that we bring to the VA in Salem and give to veterans. We also do pictures with Santa for donations as a fundraiser.”
The group holds a free movie and breakfast each Veterans Day, and sends a sympathy card for each line of duty death for police, K9, and firefighters nationwide to their department. Sirens & Salutes offers T-shirts, hats, and sweatshirts for purchase on their website, along with customized tumblers and water bottles to help raise needed funds.
“We maintain these services by donations raised and depend completely on volunteers and donations,” Price added.
