In September 2019 the Town of Buchanan received the Governor’s Community Business Launch Grant to aid in attracting new businesses to downtown Buchanan. The Town partnered with the Advancement Foundation to align with the Gauntlet Business Program and Competition helping to create an atmosphere where there has never been a better time to start a new business in downtown Buchanan.
Over the next year, entrepreneurs were encouraged to take part in The Gauntlet Business Competition where they could get great business guidance, meet mentors and have the opportunity to WIN cash and In Kind services to help start your new business in downtown Buchanan!
One hundred and seventy entrepreneurs participated in the 2019/2020 Gauntlet Business Competition which kicked off in February. The competition featured individuals who wished to start or expand a business in the region. After completing 10 weeks of classes, 55 entrepreneurs competed for more than $300,000 in cash and prizes.
The Community Business Launch Grant provided additional funds for entrepreneurs choosing to locate in downtown Buchanan. Of the 55 Gauntlet finalist, four entrepreneurs have located in downtown Buchanan. The Buchanan winners include; Anna Metheny – Patina Creek Silver, Spring Witt – The Anchorage House, June Morris – James River Drip, and Sarah Boblett – Ribbon Me This.
