After much effort, Buchanan now has three opportunities for residents and visitors to take advantage of a Farmer’s Market in downtown Buchanan.
On the second Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. of each month LEAP Mobile Market will set up in the parking lot at the Botetourt Resource Center at 33 Bedford Street. The LEAP Mobile Market offers only locally grown food products including eggs, meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables. Everyone is invited to shop with them.
On the fourth Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. of each month Feeding Southwest Virginia Mobile Market will set up in the parking lot at the Botetourt Resource Center at 33 Bedford Street. Feeding SWVA brings fresh, convenient, affordable food to the community. They accept cash, credit, SNAP/EBT as payment. Everyone is invited to shop with them.
A third opportunity exists on the following Saturday’s May 30, June 25, July 30, August 27, September 24 and December 10 for shoppers to take advantage of the new, Buchanan Farmer’s/Community Market set up next to Town Hall on Main Street from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. This Market hosted by the Town of Buchanan provides an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to sell their wares including homegrown produce, eggs, meats, cheeses, flowers, plants and the like as well as handmade artisan items including art, crafts and more.
Buchanan hopes these Farmer Markets help support and strengthen our local farms and farming families as well as artisans by creating a vibrant local Market that provides direct sales opportunities for small farms and artisans. The Buchanan Farmer’s/Community offers a low-barrier entry point for new an beginning venders. The Town aims to weave commercial, educational and social activities to make the Buchanan Farmer’s/Community Market a vital civic institution for the Buchanan community.
