The Town of Buchanan unveiled a life-sized LOVE artwork on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 which is on permanent display at the Buchanan Swinging Bridge Park located just off of Main Street at 687 Lowe Street.
Created as part of a state and local partnership to promote travel and tourism, the artwork is an extension of the 50-year-old “Virginia is for Lovers” brand, one of the most beloved and iconic slogans in the world. The Buchanan LOVEworks is one of more than300 giant LOVE letters, called LOVEworks, in towns and cities across the Commonwealth. Visitors encouraged to take pictures and share on social media with #LOVEVA
“Virginia is for Lovers is about doing the things you love to do on vacation with the people you love most,” said Rita McClenny, president and CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation. “The new LOVEwork at the Town of Buchanan captures that idea perfectly, and gives you an authentic sense of place as it showcases the historic Buchanan Swinging Bridge. We are excited that the Town of Buchanan will help us share the LOVE with travelers, helping them to discover for themselves why Virginia is for Lovers.”
Each LOVE installation is a reflection of the community in which it stands, and the Town of Buchanan LOVEwork is no exception. Visitors to the Town of Buchanan will find the Town’s LOVEwork sign nestled on the Swinging Bridge Park at the intersection of Main Street and Lowe Street.
Buchanan’s LOVE sign letters were constructed by students at BTEC – Botetourt Technical Education Center. The students worked with faculty to layout, cut and weld the letters from steel. Once completed, the letters were given a rusted patina to reflect the steel supports of the Buchanan Swinging Bridge which provides a backdrop for the LOVE sign.
