Arcadia resident Anna Metheny opened her jewelry shop in Sept. 2020 and has found that many love her Sterling Silver creations, especially her Fingerprint jewelry. Recently she answered a few questions asked by the Buchanan Area Guide (BAG).
BAG-When did you first become interested in jewelry… especially Sterling Silver? Metheny-I’ve always been drawn to designing and creating. About ten years ago I started learning all I could about working with silver. It was a long slow process because silver isn’t cheap. But I love it and have so much fun creating.
BAG- Is fingerprinting Sterling Silver your idea? Metheny-No, not my idea, but I like to think I perfected it (she jokes). But what sets me apart is that I offer to make fingerprint jewelry in person by pressing the finger directly into the silver. So the piece that is touched is the one that becomes your jewelry. I think that really makes it extra special.
BAG-Whose idea was it to open your own business? Metheny- Really the customers. There was an immediate demand for fingerprint jewelry as soon as I started making it.
BAG-Do you sell jewelry that is not customized? Metheny- I do. My favorite line was created from plants and flowers I gathered on hikes in our backyard in Arcadia. I did an entire line of silver jewelry impressed with feathers from my chickens. The chicken feather earrings were incredibly popular. Every year I create a variety of new designs inspired by the beauty of the sunflowers.
BAG- Anything new in the works? Metheny- Glad you asked! “I’m working on two new lines that I’ll begin promoting this summer: Memorial Jewelry along with personalized jewelry for
“pet parents.”
